The Science of Sound: Noise-Induced Panic
The Tapping Script: Mechanical Calming Sequence
This script focuses on separating these sounds from the danger, and managing the auditory overwhelm.
Setup: Begin by tapping with the fingers of one hand on the the Karate Chop point (the fleshy part of the other hand between the little finger and wrist) three times while repeating this phrase out aloud (or quietly under your breath): "Even though that loud engine noise is making my stomach drop, I deeply and completely accept myself and choose to hear safety."
Sequence, and tapping round: Next proceed to tap gently with your fingers through the following tapping points (eyebrow, side of eye, under the eye, under nose, under chin, collarbone and top of the head) while acknowledging the noise itself. Select one of these phrases that feels most appropriate to your current situation, such as: "This loud, aggressive sound," and, or "This panic spike, I'm choosing to calm."
You can follow up with these reframes: "The sound is normal," "The landing gear is working exactly as designed," and "I am safe as the plane's mechanics unfold."
Repeat as many tapping rounds (from eyebrow to top of head) of these short statements as necessary until you feel more relaxed and calm. You'll probably notice yourself yawning or sighing out aloud as your nervous system begins to regulate and calm.
